Become a Host

Hosting through Grassroots means offering temporary housing to displaced individuals or families. Hosting arrangements vary depending on the situation and type of support required.

What hosts provide

Hosting through Grassroots involves more than offering a room. Hosts provide a safe, stable living environment and basic orientation to the household and daily routines.

Depending on the hosting situation, hosts may provide:

  • A safe, clean place to live

  • Access to basic household facilities

  • Clear communication about house rules and expectations

  • Guidance on how to use household items and equipment

  • Patience and flexibility as guests adjust to a new environment

  • The level of involvement varies by situation, and expectations are discussed in advance so hosts can decide what feels appropriate for them.

How Hosting Works

Hosting through Grassroots is a step-by-step process designed to ensure the arrangement is appropriate and comfortable for everyone involved.

The process includes:

  1. Submitting a hosting interest form

  2. Speaking with a coordinator about your space, availability, and comfort level

  3. Complete additional paperwork

  4. Being introduced to a potential guest or family

  5. Meeting to discuss expectations, boundaries, and house guidelines

  6. Moving forward only if both the host and the guest agree

Hosting begins after expectations are clearly agreed upon by all parties.

Not all hosting inquiries result in placements, as hosting depends on fit, availability, and mutual agreement.

How hosting connections work

Grassroots Response does not “match” hosts and guests automatically.
We connect people and support conversations so everyone can decide what feels workable.

Hosting arrangements vary widely. Some hosts offer emergency or short-term stays only, while others are open to medium-term support. Some hosting takes place in shared homes, while others involve private units or separate living spaces.

Hosting moves forward only after hosts and guests meet, expectations are discussed, and everyone agrees on guidelines. Support remains available throughout the placement.

Different hosting situations

Hosting arrangements vary depending on who is being supported and their specific needs. We work with hosts to determine what type of hosting is appropriate and comfortable.

All of the hosting options can be for emergency stays, short-term or medium-term, depending on the comfort level of everyone involved.
